its preference for transgression, pluralism, kitsch and street-style.
Categorized as underground, cult, modernist, directional.
Predominantly a range for women, offering several collections, from
ready-to-wear to unique unisex and artisan. Considered a radical and
innovative atelier with a focus on craft, authorship and commerce. Thought
of as iconoclastic because its whole oeuvre challenges conventional
notions of authenticity.

Ross studied at the LSE in the UK. He worked for a
while in finance before taking up fashion and textile design. To learn his
craft, he took part-time courses in pattern construction at Central Saint
Martins while earning a post-grad degree in quantitative finance. After
working for three years in Shanghai and London, he returned to NYC. In
2008 he launched his own label, PRIESTESS NYC, selling to avant-garde
boutiques, department stores and private clients. The line’s aesthetic can
be thought of as a blend of transgression, kitsch and street-style. Part
‘80s revival, part futurism with a smattering of goth-glam, Priestess NYC
encapsulates urban-girl cool with a modern take on punk couture. Think
vintage Westwood meets Martin Margiela with a some Jeremy Scott thrown in.
Price points are reasonable—from US$150-$650 and are available now at
Patricia Field, Lane Crawford, Ad Hoc, etc . . .
Cody Ross of Priestess NYC
The Dallas-born, NYC-based designer
Cody Ross might seem blindly enveloped in eighties-era motifs;
nonetheless, he is an avant-garde swashbuckler with a penchant for punk
rock, wild geometry and directional unisex designs. It's a predilection
well suited to his artistic yet often outré couture. Ross' asymmetrical
jackets, elongated compression dresses, quirky silk prints (of sperm,
weaponry, piranha and blowfish!) and effulgent outerwear and accessories
have been seen on eye-catching notables Natalie Portman, Tyra and Gaga, to
name a few; and the designer's cool fan base gobbles up his stuff with a
cult-like zeal.
